Dear Friends of the Farm,
Our hearts are overflowing—THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for making our Grand Opening Extravaganza on Labor Day such a joyful success! Over 300 of you came out to celebrate with us, filling the farm with laughter, hayrides, treats, and so much love. Opening our gates to the public for the very first time was both humbling and affirming. The joy and excitement were palpable, and it showed us just how much opportunity this beautiful place has to serve our community in wonderful ways.
Since then, life on the farm has been busy! September brought five new residents (yes, like I acknowledged last letter, I have indeed lost all self-control). Two mini-ponies—Thunder and Lightning—became part of our farm family just before the event. These kind, gentle geldings are trained to ride and drive, which not only thrills us but also means we can offer pony ride experiences for our youngest guests. We’re just starting to plan birthday party offerings for this fall and winter and are excited for the magic they’ll bring to little princes and princesses visiting the farm. Please email me if you're interested in learning more! :)
We also added three floppy-eared Nubian goats to our herd—Bonnie, Clyde, and Willie. Nubians are prized for their sweet temperaments and excellent milk production, and even though these three are only 4½ months old, they’re already the size of our mature Nigerian Dwarfs! Our newest goat family members are super cuddly and have already become fast friends with the rest of our herd. Though I will share, Willie had a rough first day (we almost renamed him Waylon for his dramatic complaints), but thankfully he’s now happily adjusted and settled right in with the herd as well.
Meanwhile, our yellow Highland cow, Mariah, had us on high alert with early signs of labor last week. After a few anxious nights of checking the pasture (cows often calve at night!), it seems we experienced a false alarm. She’s back to her daily routine—though noticeably rounder—and has been extra snuggly. As our lead cow, she’s usually a bit too cool to rush towards us for nightly treats and scratches, but lately she runs full speed to the fence whenever she sees us working nearby in hopes of some extra attention. We’re soaking up every moment and happily pampering her while we wait for baby’s arrival. As added preparation, Papa has been hard at work building what we’re calling the “cow palace”—a roomy run-in shed in the front field where mama and baby can have extra comfort and space without having to trek up to the barn.
And the excitement doesn’t stop there—we’re opening our Pumpkin Patch and Hayrides this weekend! Starting Saturday, 9/27, from 10–5, guests can peruse the patch for the perfect pumpkin, enjoy tractor-pulled hayrides, and soak up all the cozy fall vibes. We’ll also be hosting local vendors each Saturday in October, so you can sip coffee, grab a sweet treat, and savor the season while surrounded by farm beauty. Our tractor trailer of pumpkins (yes, a tractor trailer!) arrived yesterday from a local farm and the crop is gorgeous—we hope you'll stop by and take a few home to enjoy!
Finally, we’re thrilled to announce a very special event on the final Saturday of the patch (10/25)!! Inspired by the feedback and heartfelt moments from our Grand Opening, this event will celebrate all abilities in our community. We’re calling it our fALL Celebration and partnering with local special needs vendors, students, and entertainers to create a day where everyone can shine. All entry fees ($10/person) will be donated to Arms Around ASD, a local, 501(c)3 nonprofit that supports the autism community through self-care and executive function skill-building. We can’t wait to fill the farm with joy and purpose once again as we close out our first pumpkin season and hope you'll join us in supporting this fantastic organization.
Asheville, we love you. Thank you for believing in us, cheering us on, and helping us bring Fore Saws Farm to life. We can’t wait to see you at the farm again soon!
With gratitude (and loads of pumpkins),
Taylor
