A Family Legacy Rooted in Community

The family farm on Cedar Hill Road in West Asheville, North Carolina, was founded in 1938 when the Hyatt family moved there. At just three years old, our "Meemaw Fore" watched her father build their home with his own hands, hauling river rock from the surrounding mountains to complete the exterior. At the time, Cedar Hill Road was a quiet, gravel path with only a handful of homes stretching from Pisgah View Road up the mountain. Her father, a dedicated truck farmer, began cultivating the land first with tobacco and then with vegetables. His commitment to quality quickly established his reputation for growing some of the most beautiful vegetables in the area. As the farm grew, so did the family’s involvement. Meemaw's mother ("Bobo"), originally a homemaker, took on a central role in the farm’s daily operations. She not only helped in the fields but also managed crews of local young people and women who harvested produce. Together, they supplied vegetables to Asheville’s early grocery markets like A&P and Winn-Dixie, long before larger chains like Ingles arrived. Their work connected the farm deeply to the community and contributed to its growing success. In later years, the family shifted focus from truck farming to greenhouse cultivation. This transition marked a new chapter, especially for Bobo, who found great joy in working with flowers and plants. Her enthusiasm and skill made her an indispensable part of the greenhouse operation and a cherished partner to her husband. The farm, shaped by decades of dedication, hard work, and family unity, stands as a living legacy of love for the land and community.

Continuing the family legacy

Fore Saws Farm is proud to carry forward a legacy that began in 1938—one deeply rooted in the land and the community of Asheville, NC. As the fourth generation to live on and steward the farm, we’ve evolved from our family’s early days of truck farming and greenhouse cultivation to creating meaningful, family-friendly farm experiences. While the focus has shifted, our purpose remains the same: to serve our community and preserve the spirit of connection to the land that has defined this place for nearly a century. As Asheville continues to grow, our commitment is to offer grounded, nature-centered experiences that reconnect families with the beauty and majesty of the natural landscape that drew so many here in the first place. Still residing on and managing the farm, we follow in the footsteps of those who came before us—especially Big Paw and Bobo—whose dedication built the foundation we stand on today. We honor their legacy by protecting and sharing this special place so that future generations can continue to experience its peace, wonder, and timeless charm.
